Karin Kortenhorst "three-dimensional metal drawings"

Until mid-April, I am presenting four new installations, made with metal, rolled and hammered lines, at the Eemhuis in Amersfoort. They can be found in an intimate space, a small alcove, in which you can stand as a viewer. For me, they are actually 'three-dimensional metal drawings'. During the opening hours of Scholen in the Arts, they can be seen successively on the fourth floor. The fourth and final one, Fence, is in the niche from 6 to 13 April. I myself will also be there, if you want to meet me you can on Friday afternoon 12 April from 1pm-5pm.

‘Rust, ruimte en balans’ is het credo van beeldend kunstenaar Guus Koenraads uit Beek en Donk. Dat vind je terug in zijn werk, maar ook in de inrichting van zijn huis, in de exposities die hij inricht en in zijn atelier. Hij vertelt niet alleen over zijn werk, maar ook over zijn leven en hoe hij van een expressieve schilderstijl tot geometrische abstractie kwam.

Vlemmings: "In 1958 ontstond in Duitsland een radicaal nieuwe kunststroming Zero: 'Zero is stilte, Zero is het begin'. In 1960 kreeg dit in Nederland een vervolg met de Nul-beweging, met bekende kunstenaars als Jan Schoonhoven, Henk Peeters, Armando, Jan Henderikse en Herman de Vries.
De Nul-beweging noemde zichzelf ‘anti-schilderkunstig’ en werd gekenmerkt door:
• Monochromie
• Herhaling
• Serialiteit
• Directheid van materiaalt

Met Nul als vertrekpunt heeft de kunst zich sedertdien verder ontwikkeld in een richting die Hedendaags Minimalisme genoemd kan worden.
Binnen LKG de Ploegh heeft zich een groep kunstenaars verenigd die werk maakt dat (bewust of onbewust) in het verlengde ligt van wat de Nul-beweging in gang heeft gezet. De werken zijn geïnspireerd door de vormtaal van de Nul-beweging."

Fan van Dom Hans van der Laan: Huis Naalden

Huis Naalden, ontworpen en gebouwd in 1978-1982, is één van de topmonumenten van de ‘Bossche School'-architectuur uit de tweede helft van de 20ste eeuw, een stroming in de Nederlandse architectuur die ook internationaal erkenning heeft gekregen. Het huis werd ontworpen door Dom Hans van der Laan (1904-1991), grondlegger van de Bossche School.
De pater-architect Dom Hans van der Laan heeft een klein, maar prachtig oeuvre nagelaten. Het huis in Best is zijn enige woonhuis in Nederland. Huis Naalden werd ontworpen kort nadat pater Van der Laan zijn architectuurtheorie ‘De Architectonische Ruimte' had gepubliceerd. Het ontwerp is een statement van Van der Laan over hoe een woonhuis gebouwd zou moeten worden en van zijn opvattingen over maat, vorm en ruimte op basis van het 'plastische getal'. Van der Laan noemde het ontwerp ‘een proeve van architectonische ruimte'.
Huis Naalden breekt geheel met de Nederlandse woonhuistypologie. Het is gebouwd als een compositie van volumes rondom een binnenhof. Het bestaat uit vier bouwdelen: een zaal (woonkamer), een langsvleugel (slaapkamers, keuken en sanitaire voorzieningen), een open galerij (die tevens als garage dienst kan doen) en een tuinmuur. Samen vormen ze de besloten binnenhof. In een fonteintje in de gang staat de inscriptie ‘het buiten in de ban van het binnen', een bondige typering van het huis.

Fan of Thomas Demand

Vlemmings: "Thomas Demand is a German Conceptual artist known for his illusionistic photographs of intricate, three-dimensional models sculpted entirely from paper.
Though Demand titles his works with unassuming, descriptive names like Scheune (Barn), the places he reconstructs are often based on politically or historically significant locations.
The uniform material and slight flaws of the image’s miniature objects are usually the only way a viewer encountering Demand’s photographs up close may even notice that scene is, in fact, made of paper.

Born in 1964 in Munich, Germany, he went on to study sculpture with Fritz Schwegler at the Künstakademie Düsseldorf, where he encountered the photographers Bern and Hilla Becher along with some of their most noted pupils, Andreas Gursky and Candida Höfer.

Demand always destroys his models after he photographs them, creating a further air of mystery to his practice. Demand lives and works between Los Angeles, CA and Berlin, Germany."
