Rotterdamse kunstenaar Cindy Bakker maakte voor haar solotentoonstelling in iCOON, volledig nieuw werk. Ze liet zich inspireren door het omliggende landschap: de zee, het strand en de duinen, in contrast met het harde beton van de bunker zelf. Met haar tentoonstelling wil Cindy niet alleen een visuele ervaring bieden, maar ook een reis door persoonlijke herinneringen in relatie tot de omgeving.
Elk werk is een uitnodiging om verder te kijken dan het oppervlak, om je eigen herinneringen en associaties te ontdekken in de eenvoud van wat voor ons bekend is.

Cindy Bakker (1989) behaalde haar Master Fine Arts in 2018. Ze had onder andere solotentoonstellingen in TAC, Eindhoven (Copy Paste 2019), de Kunsthal, Rotterdam (Play 2021) en Willem Twee, 's Hertogenbosch (Cheese 2024). Ook ontwierp ze diverse kunstwerken in de openbare ruimte zoals The Splash (met Arttenders, Annie M.G. Schmidtplein, Rotterdam, 2021) en De Bal (met Kunstmest, Amstelveen, 2022). Daarnaast werkt ze regelmatig samen met merken en organisaties als MOOOl Carpets, BOL.com en museum Boijmans van Beuningen.

Cindy haalt haar inspiratie uit onze alledaagse omgeving; met name grote kleurvlakken en primaire vormen. Deze indrukken vertaalt ze naar sculpturen of schilderijen die vaak deel uitmaken van grotere installaties. Ze experimenteert met uiteenlopende materialen als staal, foam, acryl, rubber en hout. Persoonlijke herinneringen zijn vaak het vertrek. Zo beweegt haar kunst zich op het snijvlak van herkenning en vervreemding. Door vormen en kleuren te abstraheren onderzoekt ze hoe de betekenis en associaties van alledaagse objecten voortdurend verschuiven.

Rotterdam artist Cindy Bakker created completely new work for her solo exhibition in iCOON.

She was inspired by the surrounding landscape: the sea, the beach and the dunes, in contrast with the hard concrete of the bunker itself. With her exhibition, Cindy wants to offer not only a visual experience, but also a journey through personal memories in relation to the environment.
Each work is an invitation to look beyond the surface, to discover your own memories and associations in what seem to us familiar forms.

Cindy Bakker (1989) obtained her Master Fine Arts in 2018. She also regularly collaborates with brands and organisations such as MOOOl Carpets, BOL.com and the Boijmans van Beuningen museum.

Cindy draws her inspiration from our everyday environment; particularly large areas of colour and primary shapes. She translates these impressions into sculptures or paintings that are often part of larger installations. She experiments with various materials such as steel, foam, acrylic, rubber and wood. Personal memories are often the starting point. Her art thus moves on the intersection of recognition and alienation. By abstracting shapes and colours, she investigates how the meaning and associations of everyday objects are constantly shifting.
