GLOREN

April 4th - May 10th, 2026

poster design by Piet Gerards, The Netherlands

Curator Van Welzenis, in bringing together various artists for this project, considered the history of Museum iCOON and opted for a minimalist approach to abstraction. This exhibition presents modern abstract art with a wide variety of forms and expressions. It includes works by historical pioneers such as Jan van Munster and Ad Dekkers, as well as works by contemporary artists such as Kirstin Arndt, Fergus Martin, and Gerold Miller.

The participating artists distinguish themselves in contemporary abstract art through their specific approach to form, light, and structure: Ad Dekkers, who created sleek white wooden reliefs; Jan van Munster, who worked with light and energy; Peter Struycken, who combines color theory with digital techniques; Sigmund de Jong, who focuses on architectural structures and works with lines and planes; Gerold Miller, who works with geometric, glossy forms; Fergus Martin, who creates subtle paintings and sculptures with rhythm and lines; and Kirstin Arndt, who experiments with materials and light in installations.

Visitors to the museum will experience abstract art as a continuous exploration of form, color, and space. It demonstrates how artists from different generations continually rediscover these elements. The juxtaposition of different works and approaches creates a rich whole.

The title of this exhibition is "Gloom"; to the shine and radiance of the works, by the sea, in a bunker, where no daylight enters.

About the curator

Jan Willem van Welzenis is an artist and curator of (international) exhibitions. By collaborating with external parties on projects —often in unconventional locations— he has built a broad network. By bringing together various movements, from constructive geometry to abstract expressionism, he sheds new light on the historical and contemporary development of abstraction. The goal of each collaborative project is to showcase the vitality of abstract art, often radically different from the established art scene.

Van Welzenis has been actively organizing exhibitions for almost fifteen years. He has curated exhibitions in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Italy, including at the Westergas in Amsterdam, in historic houses in Dordrecht, Amsterdam, and Ghent, as well as in galleries in Brussels and Breda.
