Design Show:
SHELTER FOR DESIGN
Berry Dijkstra X iCOON - Hoek van Holland
June 21 - July 26, 2026
In a world filled with tension and acceleration, SHELTER for Design challenges visitors to slow down, reflect, and seek connection. The group exhibition opens on Sunday, June 21, at iCOON.
The show redefines the site’s original defensive purpose as a space for dialogue and optimism. Curated by Berry Dijkstra & Helma Vlemmings, the exhibition is divided into themes, offering a visual response to global threats through a diverse range of works by designers from the Netherlands and abroad.
The Situation Room
The Situation Room in the White House is where crises—such as attacks and military operations—are coordinated. SHELTER for Design creates a counterpart: a space not defined by escalation, but by softness, and connection.
The Mirrored World
Naomi Klein coined the term mirrored world to describe the distorted reflection of reality, where facts are twisted. With the rise of AI, the boundaries between real and fake continue to blur. This room showcases works that play with this duality: objects that appear differently than expected, with hidden layers revealed only upon closer inspection.
To Die For
This space references The Last Supper and the collective sense of threat and powerlessness evoked by the constant stream of news. Here, the focus is on togetherness and friendship, in a table setting where everyone is invited to join in a celebratory atmosphere.
Behind the curtains
Visitors can peek behind the curtains to see what is normally hidden. Instead of ‘a man’ they will face a stacked composition featuring everything needed to create an exhibition. From packaging to tools all visible, no secrets here!
The Tea Party
We’re reclaiming the tea party, removing its political associations into a vibrant celebration of creativity, embracing the beauty and joy of ceramics, lush flower vases, bold colors, and playful shapes.
